reupholster vs buy new ?

Has anyone had a sofa reupholstered, especially in the Maldonado area? We inherited a set when we bought our home that is well made, comfy, and ugly as heck. i'm imagining, (with the usual special Gringo pricing we get for services) - we'd end up paying the same amount for upholstering as we would for a new couch?
But, honestly, having neither bought furniture, or re-done any, in UY, i have no idea.
Any input would be appreciated!
