Hey everyone... New to the forums here, so I apologize if I'm repeating myself from the general introduction =p
I've been planning on ex-patting pretty seriously for about the last 6-7 years or so now, and hope to make that move here pretty soon. I've got all the pieces in place except for the 'lived experience' part, so I'm planning a 10 day trip this November to come and check it out (I want to make sure it's not one of those "looks good on paper, but...." situations =p ).
There are a lot of reasons why Uruguay has made it to my top 3 candidates... I'm a researcher by profession, so I feel I have a pretty good idea of all of the typical 'technicals' of what to expect (that said, I won't ever turn down experienced advice!). What I'm -mostly- curious about are suggestions for how to make the most of my time down there... Real advice and suggestions, from real locals. Don't get me wrong, I want to spend some time 'being a tourist', but I'm much more interested in getting a feel for what real, 'non-tourist' life is like in the limited time that I have to spend down there.
As mentioned, my partner and I are gay and still in our late 30's, so we'd like to see some things that might be of interest to us on that kind of a level... That said, we're far more of the country and nature kind of people than we are clubs and city life, and I'd be interested in trying to find something a little more 'rural' to live, so we'd like to try to get a good feel for both.
I know that's vague and I might be shooting in the dark, but... any tips or pointers would be really appreciated =)
To anyone who responds, thanks in advance! =)
