Howdy, I am in my mid-50s', married, two teenage kids at home and a couple more adult kids 24 and over. I may be forced to exit my current US Federal Employee job a few years before my retirement pension and social security will kick in. ...and I am looking to get out of the USA while the gettin's good. I am looking at Uruguay as an option. I would like to achieve citizenship, because I intend to become an ingrained member of the country that adopts me just as my ancestors did coming to USA. Also, I hope to sponsor my older kids out of America at some point as well. On the Interwebs, Uruguay appears to be the best option for my situation and desires. Anywho... I believe I have enough money in savings and other locations that I could use to financially support my family before my pensions kick in. Everywhere I read, a proof of monthly income is what is required, and that is all that is mentioned as an acceptable form of financial stability proof. Just having money in the bank doesn't seem to be acceptable? Does anyone have any alternate experience in this area and/or can confirm no monthly income, no play?
On a side note, retiring early and not needing to work anymore would be my preferred scenario. Second scenario would be getting a job, which I know will not be easy for a non-spanish speaker like myself. However, just out of curiosity... My career is Telecommunications. Telephony, Network Engineer, Physical Network Infrastructure Security, designing and building telecommunications facilities, etc... Does anyone know if that sounds like a skill set Uruguay would find useful?
Thanks in advance!
