Got a new 3 month visa, but no entry stamp

Hi,

I arrived in vietnam in December and after 2 extensions of my 30 day visa I was advised to get a 3 month visa. The guy who got it gave it to me yesterday, but the new visa has only one red stamp on it and no entry or expedition stamp in passport. It is single entry too. Do I need to leave the country and come back to use the new visa? As it stands right now my last extension on the first visa ran out the 12th, but I have no new stamp since then despite having a new visa issued in HCMC. Also how many extensions can a visa have? I was under the impression 2 was the Max, but the guy sold me the 3 month visa was adamant you could get more. Also one of the teachers I work with told me you can go to the airport and then re-enter there instead of taking a bus to Camdodia. Let me know.
