Marriage Visa

I recently got married in March of this year. I now have a 5 year marriage visa. It is my understanding that for the next 5 years I have to leave the country every 90 days and come back to be legal here. That makes no sense to me at all. I would think that being married to a Vietnamese national I would not have to do this. I am not the sharpest pencil in the box, so could someone explain why this is? Also, is there any legal, other than leaving and coming back in, or illegal way (tea money) to get around this? I can not see doing this for 5 years. I would appreciate any help, suggestions or good ideas about this.
Thanks
