Crimes in Vietnam

I worked for a major oil company in Vietnam-HMC. The crimes in Vietnam is getting to the point where all of the expats in our company were warned of home invasion and to be very careful out on the street for fear of kidnapping. The reason for this uptick on crimes: 1) The economy is bad; inflation is high 2) austerity forced gov. to release drug addicts from prisons so big cities like HCM and Hanoi. Never use your mobile phone on the streets or even in your car with your window open; same goes for slinging your purse across your body on motorbikes.
