I'd like to warn expats who are taking a trip to the citadel in Hue. This is a great way to spend a few hours - it's like a forbidden city in Vietnam, but pretty run-down. The Vietnamese Government's good work in restoring this site is being undermined by at least two of the women who take your money at the gate. they have a scam going where they give unsuspecting foreigners and locals too little change when they are buying tickets. Between the two of them they are making quite a bit of money each day by fleecing ticket buyers. We reported this to the manager, who called up the culprits. But like all whistle-blowers, on June 24 this year we found ourselves fending off accusations they we were making it up and quickly left. BE WARNED: these little thieves will rob you if you present them with large notes, so be alert, because the Hue management doesn't care.
