Police Check for Work Permit

I am planning to move to Vietnam to look for work as a teacher and I am trying to gather together all of the documents I need in order to be able to be approved to legally work there.

One of the things I need is a police check but I am not sure who to get this from here in the US. Will a state police check work?

Would anyone who has been through the process be willing to share their experience and advice with me? It would be a great help.

Also, I have heard that a vietnamese police check will work, but you have to be in vietnam for 6 months. How does that work? How can you stay in vietnam long enough for that? Has anyone done it this way?
