Buying Dollars?

Hello everyone, I'm going to move to Nha Trang soon. The Vietnamese Dong confuses and confounds me and I don't want to use it as much as possible.

I will bring a few thousand dollars in cash with me which will eventually run out, but I am concerned about how to acquire new hard currency. It doesn't seem to be easy.

How do you do it? It seems that even if you open a USD bank account you can only withdraw the money in Dong unless you furnish a lot of paperwork.

Is there a simple way to "withdraw" or receive funds from abroad in hard currency, preferably USD as opposed to VND?

Bitcoin did cross my mind but I would prefer something simpler/old school/straight forward.
