US Taxes for Expats

I was wondering what Expats do about State taxes in the US. As an Expat, I know I would still have to pay income taxes to the Fed, especially since my major source of income would be social security. But if I don't maintain a residence in the US, do I still pay State taxes? Can you still vote? Can I maintain a US bank account? Any answers or related experiences would be appreciated.
