Lawyers in Nicaragua

I wanted to pass along a story about a lawyer in Nicaragua. I know there are good and bad lawyers everywhere.

My wife recently made an unplanned trip to Nicaragua to take care of a legal matter pertaining to land that she owns. The lawyer she hired to handle the paperwork told her the problem was an expired National ID card. When she got there, she looked over the paperwork that the lawyer was supposed to be handling and found that the surveyor had made a mistake. The mistake was easily corrected with a phone call to the surveyor and a new document sent to the government land office, but the lawyer had the audacity to offer to 'fix' the problem for $200 more.

Needless to say my wife found a new lawyer, and she got her ID card renewed while she was there, but this incident just highlights the problem. She is a native and speaks the language and still hired the wrong person.
