TMI on web ... question about ants

Well, un-announced, the city bug-patrol came through everybody's house and "fogged" it. We had NO forewarning. So, naturally, we are now going to get to the bottom of this and find out from our neighbor the city's schedule for fogging interior / exteriors of all the homes.

ANTS: that being said, we found "tons" (okay ... a little exaggerated) of dead ants or dying ants in the kitchen and front entrance door, upstairs bedrooms, and outside on the patio. Some were yellowish. Some were red and black. Some were black. All were approximately of the same size.

I tried to identify these ants and was not very successful with that task. TMI !!! Is there someone out there that is knowledgeable about these ants? What kind are they? Are they harmful to humans?

Thanks, in advance, for any / all information you may have.
Linda
