be prepared

Nicaragua is currently dealing with a large number of cases of Chikungunya (I hope I spelled that correctly). It is a mosquito borne nasty illness related to dengue. MINSA, public health, is going house to house fogging the house and grounds and a street sprayer of insecticide just went up and down out street. My husband has respiratory problems. He has been hiding in the bedroom for the last hour until it clears.

There is nothing you can do but protect yourself. Bring a couple of surgical masks which are easily available. Our masks have a charcoal outside which helps and they are washable. We also have glasses that completely cover our eyes. We run when we hear the sprayers or foggers but you can get caught. The foggers have the legal right to enter any building and do their thing. It is unpleasant, but dengue and Chik V cause bad problems and Chik V can cause muscle problems that may last for years.

Read up, stories are all over the internet and take precautions. Be prepared.
It is part of life in the tropics.
