Safety in Nicaragua

Hello All:

Can someone help me with a question? My husband and I have plans to move to Nicaragua however when I went on the US Travel website, it kind of freaks me out with regards to safety. I've lived in South America for a couple of years with no problem. I know you have to be careful wherever you go including the states. However, I would like to know the realistic point of view regarding safety, e.g. muggings, robberies, etc.
