Winter Resident

As I've about had it with the snow in the north US, I'm looking for places to spend the winters. I have a daughter-in-law in Mateare, and am looking at 1 to 3 month rental. She is helping me out, but isn't always quick to answer questions.
Unfortunately, I don't speak but a few words of Spanish, although I am going to remedy that as best I can.
So, at the risk of opening floodgates, any tips on winter living in the Mateare area?
