best place to stay cheap

My son and I have planned a visit in October on a package deal with flight and hotel for 5 or 6 nights for approx.1300 for both. Is this about right or should we spend more on the hotel part. I think Delta is the airlines. He wants a hotel on the beach with a patio. I don't think we can afford that from what I see online. would appreciate and info and/or suggestions. Thanks
