Hi,
I posted here once before inquiring about retirement possibly in Nicaragua, Costa Rica or Panama. I have to admit at times I tend to over think things that slow the decision-making. It would be nice and perhaps helpful to hear from some of you how you did it the first time. Did you just got off the plane find a hotel and start looking around for a place to rent, maybe know someone to assist…
Lately I have been entertaining the idea about volunteering. I am a retired teacher and from what I understand the schools there (and everywhere) can use extra help in classrooms. Volunteering does not even have to be with schools perhaps other projects in the community, environment… It might be beneficial for all involved. They can get free assistance (I’ll pay for my trip room and board) and I’ll get the opportunity to immediately get involved in the community and avoid the “breaking in” process. I did look into online and there are number of organizations who act as a middleman providing placements for volunteers. For example office based in London England providing opportunity for volunteering in schools in Central America. They are charging money for the volunteering but that money never reaches the local community. If there is a cost I rather pay the local community than support that office in London. Besides with all that dishonesty online I rather avoid it if I can.
I guess what I am getting at is if anyone knows of any local school or other organizations that might benefit from volunteers and could be directly contact without going through a middleman please let me know. I mentioned school systems several times because I retired as a teacher after running a classroom for twenty-four years.
Any information would be greatly appreciated
