realities of expat life

This is a very interesting article about why expats are leaving Ecuador, but it could be about Nicaragua:

https://southofzero.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/why-are-so-many-expats-leaving-ecuador/

We are watching many expats leave Nicaragua either to go home or another country. Many sold homes and moved everything they owned to live, sight unseen, in Nicaland based on what they read or other people told them. Some had briefly visited the country and did not really realize how different living in a place is to visiting it as a tourist.

The reasons they are now leaving are the same as in this article. I will add that cost is going up everyday. We have been in country for years and notice the rising costs especially housing. If you are reading that you can live comfortably for very little, don't believe it.

What you read on the internet, see on a quick trip and day to day living reality are very different. Do your homework and be prepared to find yourself in a very foreign country that operates in another language and has its own customs. It is also rapidly changing and what has been true may no longer be true.
