Public Utilities in Nic.

We were drifting into this in another post so I thought I would open one up with some preliminary comments.

1. Phones. Many homes do not have land lines. Some that do block international calls, etc.
Cel phones come from at least 2 companies that charge more to call the other company, etc. Both companies send endless messages to your phone making your message function m/l useless.
2. Water and electricity. In the US water or power outages are considered a public health emergency. Here they are a joke. You install a private tank or you bathe when Enacal dictates. We don;t yet have a solar backup system, but we have an amazing collection of rechargeable batteries, lamps and flashlights.
3. All utilities, including internet, vary in quality from neighborhood to neighborhood, day to day, etc.
4. the law says you can cancel a utility with 30 days written notice, even if you signed a contract to the contrary.
5. generally, service is expanding rapidly, especially in high profit items like cel and internet.
6. If you are doing a new development, you will probably pay for the infrastructure and then deed it over to the utility. Foreign aid, etc. pays for projects in the countryside, etc, where people are often low on dough.
