Property Seizure

Has always been a bit problematic in Nicaragua. Ortega lives in a house seized during the revolution.
The 250 or so who were stripped of citizenship and flown to the US lost their Nicaraguan assets. This was in response to their involvement in the 2018 coup.
Expat retirees would be well advised to stay out of Nicaraguan politics.
It buys you nothing, and any criticism can easily be mis understood.
It's indeed different from living in the US, in many positive as well as negative ways.
I've seen any number of people leave. A lot of the old timers have been there a long time. I like Nicaragua very much. I've had a good retirement there. The farm gives me some space, and plenty to do. It's been an active and healthy life..
Nicaragua is NOT for everyone.
Nicaragua varies greatly, from north to south.
One thing has remained true:
You can live well in Nicaragua for a fraction of what it costs to live modestly in the US.
BUT, is it a life that suits YOU ?
Only you can answer that question.
There is a monthly publication, Nica Nuggets, that will provide a lot of background info. And give you some ideas on where to start looking.
If you are serious, start learning to speak Spanish. It goes quicker than you think, and a little bit goes a long way.
