Expat spouse moving

Hi, I moved to St Lucia a couple of months ago on a work permit from my employer. I'm told that my husband can come here on my permit, and I have to simply produce our marriage certificate and his passport copy to get my work permit appended.

Now, I have a few questions:
1. I understand he can't work here on my permit, but if he gets a job and his employer applies for a work permit for him, that will work, yes?

2. Do we have to go through the hassle of renewing his visa every 42 days, or is there a way around it?

3. He has a driver's license from India. What is the best option for him to start driving as soon as he gets here? Should he get an international license before he leaves India (assuming it will be valid in SLU)? I've heard about a temporary permit - how does this work? Should he get a regular local driver's license, and if so how long does that typically take? We drive on the same side of the road in India, so he doesn't really need classes here. I want to know what the quickest and best way for him to start driving here would be.

Thanks,
J
