Hi
We are looking to buy land in the monchy area and are waiting to find out if our offer has been accepted. This has been a long time dream which we are finally trying to turn into a reality. However after our visit in february to the island i was a little worried after we visited my husbands aunt who expressed her views on the amount of killings and people being murdered in st lucia. She's a retired teacher and did not hold back in telling us how bad things are now on the island which had me a little worried at that time. We had hired a car for that trip and had driven around the whole island and had no problems. What she said hasn't put me off as we still intend on buying our land and building our dream home but as I've come across this forum i just thought I'd open up the discussion to get a more general opinion on this. At the end of the day there are not so good areas everywhere even in london there are lots of stabbings and bad things going on right now and we live here and we have teenagers. I think all we can do is be aware of your surroundings no matter where we are and use good judgement especially when in unfamiliar places. But we love st lucia and can see ourselves living in the north of the island. Does anyone know the monchy area well? Is this area relatively safe? Is his aunt right or is she just scaremongering us a little?
