When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Latvia, they said:

The cost of living in Latvia is relatively low compared to other European countries. It is important to research the local laws and regulations before moving to Latvia," remarked one expat in Latvia.

"Buying a home in Latvia can be a great investment, as the country has a strong economy and a growing real estate market. However, it is important to consider the costs associated with buying a home, such as closing costs, taxes, and maintenance fees. Renting a home in Latvia can be a more affordable option, as it does not require a large upfront investment. Additionally, renting can provide more flexibility, as it allows you to move more easily if your circumstances change. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Latvia should be based on your individual needs and financial situation," commented one expat who made the move to Latvia.

What should I pack when moving to Latvia?

We asked people living in Latvia to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Latvia, it is important to pack warm clothing, as the climate is cold and wet. It is also important to bring a good raincoat and waterproof shoes. Additionally, it is recommended to bring a good supply of sunscreen and insect repellent, as the summer months can be quite warm and sunny. It is also a good idea to bring a few basic items such as a flashlight, a first aid kit, and a multi-plug adapter. Finally, it is important to bring any necessary documents such as a passport, visa, and any other relevant paperwork," replied a member in Latvia.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Latvia?

This will allow them to access the same services as Latvian citizens, including free or discounted medical care," said one expat.

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Latvia, they replied:

"Latvia has a well-developed healthcare system, providing a wide range of medical services to its citizens. The country has a network of hospitals, clinics, and health centers that offer a variety of medical services, including primary care, specialist care, and emergency services. Latvia also has a number of specialized medical centers that provide specialized care for specific conditions, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health. In addition, Latvia has a number of private medical facilities that offer a range of services, including cosmetic surgery, dentistry, and alternative medicine," wrote one expat living in Latvia.
