The cost of living in Idaho is generally lower than the national average, making it an attractive place to live for those on a budget. The approximate population of Idaho is 1.8 million, and the largest cities are Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello. The cons of living in Idaho include the lack of public transportation, the limited job opportunities, and the cold winters. Additionally, Idaho is a very rural state, so those who prefer city life may find it difficult to adjust.

Is the cost of living in Idaho high?

We asked people about the cost of living in Idaho, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Idaho is relatively low, which makes it attractive for those looking to move to the state. Housing costs are generally low, with a nice one bedroom apartment typically renting for under $700 per month and a nice two bedroom for about $850. Eating out at moderately priced restaurants usually costs around $10-15 per person for a single meal," commented one expat who moved to Idaho.

What type of recreational facilities are in Idaho?

When we asked people living in Idaho about recreational activities, they mentioned:

"Idaho offers a variety of recreational facilities for its residents to enjoy. From skiing and snowboarding in the winter to hiking and camping in the summer, Idaho has something for everyone. Fishing, boating, and rafting are popular activities on the many rivers and lakes throughout the state. Idaho also has a number of golf courses, tennis courts, and other sports facilities. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, there are plenty of parks and trails to explore. Idaho also has a number of museums, art galleries, and other cultural attractions," said one expat living in Idaho.

What is the weather like in Idaho?

"Idaho has a diverse climate, ranging from hot summers to cold winters. In the summer, temperatures can reach into the 90s, while in the winter, temperatures can dip below freezing. The state also experiences a wide range of precipitation, from snow in the winter to thunderstorms in the summer," mentioned one expat inIdaho.

Are there good restaurants in Idaho?

"One of Idaho's favorite restaurants is The Modern Hotel and Bar in Boise. Located in the heart of downtown Boise, The Modern offers a unique dining experience with a menu that features locally sourced ingredients and a variety of craft cocktails. The restaurant also has an outdoor patio and a full bar. Another popular restaurant in Idaho is The Griddle in Coeur d'Alene. The Griddle is a family-owned restaurant that serves up classic American breakfast and lunch dishes. The restaurant is known for its generous portions and friendly service. The Bittercreek Alehouse in Boise is also a favorite among Idahoans. The Bittercreek Alehouse is a gastropub that serves up a variety of craft beers and creative dishes. The restaurant also has an outdoor patio and a full bar. Finally, the Red Feather Lounge in Boise is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The Red Feather Lounge is a cozy restaurant that serves up classic American dishes with a modern twist. The restaurant also has an extensive wine list and a full bar," mentioned one expat inIdaho.

Where will I buy groceries and do other shopping in Idaho?

"People living in Idaho typically buy groceries and do other shopping at local supermarkets, convenience stores, and department stores. Additionally, many Idahoans shop at farmers markets, specialty stores, and online retailers," commented one expat who moved to Idaho.

What are the visa & residency requirements in Idaho?

"To apply for a visa in Idaho, individuals must first contact the United States Department of State. Applicants are required to provide proof of legal entry into the country as well as details of their travel plans and the purpose of their stay. After submitting the required documents and paying the visa application fee, applicants then must attend an in-person interview with an embassy representative. Following a successful interview, the applicant may be approved for a visa and receive the visa in the mail. To apply for residency in Idaho, individuals must follow a series of steps which includes obtaining a yearly social security card, obtaining a state identification card or driver's license, and filing Virginia tax returns. Once these steps have been completed, individuals may apply to the United States Department of Homeland Security to confirm their legal rights to reside in the United States. Once accepted, individuals must then fill out an application for a residence permit and submit it to the United States Immigration and Citizenship Services. After reviewing their application, the USCIS may grant an applicant residency status," said an expat in Idaho.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Idaho?

"Healthcare and health insurance in Idaho can be expensive, depending on the type of coverage and provider. Generally, health insurance premiums in Idaho are higher than the national average, and the cost of healthcare services can also be higher than in other states. However, there are a variety of health insurance plans available in Idaho, and some of them may be more affordable than others. Additionally, Idaho residents may be eligible for government subsidies or other assistance programs to help offset the cost of health insurance," commented one expat who moved to Idaho.
