The cons of living in Kentucky include the lack of public transportation, the high rate of poverty, and the lack of job opportunities. Additionally, the state has a high rate of drug abuse and crime.

Is the cost of living in Kentucky high?

"The cost of living in Kentucky is generally lower than the national average. Rentals are usually quite affordable here. A nice 1 bedroom apartment can cost anywhere between 500-700 USD and a nice 2 bedroom apartment between 700-1000 USD. Dinner at a moderately priced restaurant could cost around 20 USD per person," remarked one expat in Kentucky.

What type of recreational facilities are in Kentucky?

"In Kentucky, residents can enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, such as parks, golf courses, lakes, and rivers. There are also many trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. For those who enjoy water sports, there are plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming. Kentucky also has a number of amusement parks, zoos, and museums for family fun. Additionally, there are many sports complexes and arenas for watching professional and amateur sports," remarked one expat living in Kentucky.

What is the weather like in Kentucky?

"The weather in Kentucky can vary greatly depending on the season. In the summer, temperatures can reach the high 80s and 90s with high humidity. In the winter, temperatures can drop to the low 20s and 30s with occasional snowfall. Spring and fall are generally mild with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-70s," commented one expat who moved to Kentucky.

Are there good restaurants in Kentucky?

"One of Kentucky's favorite restaurants is the Holly Hill Inn in Midway. Located in a historic building, the restaurant offers a menu of locally-sourced, seasonal dishes. The restaurant has been featured in several publications, including Southern Living and Garden & Gun, and has been praised for its creative and delicious dishes. Another popular restaurant in Kentucky is the Old Talbott Tavern in Bardstown. This historic tavern has been serving up classic American fare since 1779, and is known for its fried chicken, country ham, and other Southern favorites. The restaurant also offers a selection of craft beers and bourbons, making it a great spot for a night out. Finally, the Bluegrass Brewing Company in Louisville is a favorite among locals. The restaurant offers a variety of craft beers, as well as a menu of pub-style food. The restaurant also hosts live music and other events, making it a great spot for a night out," said one expat living in Kentucky.

"People living in Kentucky typically buy groceries and do other shopping at supermarkets, convenience stores, and department stores. They may also shop at local farmers markets, specialty stores, and online retailers. Additionally, many people in Kentucky take advantage of the state's tax-free shopping days to save money on their purchases," commented one expat who moved to Kentucky.

What are the visa & residency requirements in Kentucky?

"Visiting Kentucky requires the traveler to obtain a US visa, unless the traveler is a US citizen or is coming from a visa-exempt country. The application process for a visa involves submitting an online application, paying a fee and attending an in-person interview. Applicants for residency in Kentucky must provide proof of citizenship, identity, employment, and age. Depending on the type of residency, applicants may need to prove that they have lived in the state for some time prior to applying. The application process may also involve submitting tax forms, certain documents, and showing evidence of medical insurance. The Kentucky Department of Immigration and Resettlement provides detailed instructions on how to apply for particular types of residency," said one expat.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Kentucky?

"Healthcare and health insurance in Kentucky can be expensive, depending on the type of coverage and provider. Generally, health insurance premiums in Kentucky are higher than the national average, and the cost of healthcare services can also be higher than in other states. Additionally, Kentucky has some of the highest rates of uninsured residents in the country, which can lead to higher costs for those who do have insurance," said an expat in Kentucky.
