Summary: People describe life in Albania as vibrant and full of culture. Expats love the friendly people, the beautiful scenery, the delicious food, and the low cost of living. The average cost of living for an expat is around $1,000 per month. The population of Albania is approximately 2.9 million people, and the largest cities are Tirana, Durres, Vlore, Elbasan, and Shkoder. The cons of living in Albania include the lack of job opportunities, the lack of infrastructure, and the lack of public transportation. Additionally, the country is still transitioning from a communist to a capitalist economy, so there are still some economic and political issues that need to be addressed.

Is there a lot of crime in Albania?

We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered:

"Crime is a problem in Albania, with reports of organized crime, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Violent crime is also a concern, with reports of robberies, assaults, and homicides. Corruption is also an issue, with allegations of bribery and other forms of corruption in the government and public sector," said one expat in Albania.

Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Albania accepting of differences?

"Albania is a diverse country with a population that is made up of many different ethnic and religious backgrounds. People in Albania are generally accepting of differences and are tolerant of different cultures and beliefs. What are the schools in Albania like?

"This school has not been able to retain even one foreign teacher for even one full school year. I took my son out, and know that at least 3 other students left the school during the school year due to poor management. The current director has no experience as a director and has begun military type rules which he picks and chooses when and who to apply discipline to. The administration unfortunately seems to be corrupt, through my witnessing an exchange that was not legal. Please be aware before enrolling your child here," said one expat in Tirana with children at Albanian International School.

"The American School of Tirana (AST) is one of the best international schools in Albania. Located in the capital city of Tirana, AST offers a comprehensive American-style education to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and offers a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college and university studies. AST also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and art. The International School of Tirana (IST) is another excellent international school in Albania. IST is a private, non-profit school that offers a comprehensive international curriculum to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools and offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and art. The Bilingual School of Tirana (BST) is a bilingual school in Albania that offers a comprehensive bilingual education to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. BST is accredited by the Council of International Schools and offers a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college and university studies. The school also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and art," remarked one parent with kids at in .

"It's a good school but they do hold the students and parents accountable. They use an online grade/homework (EngradePro) system to monitor grades and also use an additional online science program so internet access is a must. Like I said before the MAP program is nice to show your students progress. This appears to be the only school in the city that just doesn't change grades to make parents happy so don't enroll if you expect special favors. The academic director is former US military so everyone is treated the same and the students all have the same right to learn. Your child is special, but so is everyone elses :)," explained one expat living in Tirana, Albania.
