When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Congo, they said:

"Before retiring in Congo, expats should research the cost of living in the area they plan to live in. They should also familiarize themselves with the local laws and regulations, as well as the language and culture of the country. We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered:

"Yes, there is a lot of crime in Congo. The country has a high rate of violent crime, including armed robbery, rape, and murder. In addition, there is a significant amount of corruption and organized crime. Human trafficking is also a major problem in Congo, with many people being trafficked for forced labor and sexual exploitation," wrote a member in Congo.

Is there a lot of diversity? Are people in Congo accepting of differences?

"Yes, there is a lot of diversity in Congo. The country is home to over 200 ethnic groups, each with its own language and culture. People in Congo are generally accepting of differences and celebrate the diversity of their country. They are proud of their cultural heritage and strive to maintain it," wrote one member in Congo.

What are the schools in Congo like?

Located in the capital city of Kinshasa, ISK offers a comprehensive education in English and French, with a focus on developing global citizens. The school offers a wide range of courses, from the International Baccalaureate (IB) program to the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). ISK also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art. The Lycée Français de Kinshasa (LFK) is a bilingual school in Congo that offers a French-language education. The school follows the French curriculum and offers a variety of courses, from the French Baccalaureate to the International Baccalaureate. LFK also offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art. The American School of Kinshasa (ASK) is another excellent international school in Congo. ASK offers a comprehensive American-style education, with a focus on developing global citizens. The school offers a wide range of courses, from the Advanced Placement (AP) program to the International Baccalaureate (IB). ASK also offers a variety of extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, and art," explained one expat living in Congo.

Is the cost of living in Congo high?

We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in Congo, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Congo varies depending on the region and city. Generally, basic necessities such as food, housing, and transportation are relatively inexpensive. However, the cost of imported goods and services can be quite high. Additionally, the cost of utilities such as electricity and water can be quite expensive in some areas," remarked one expat living in Congo.

"The cost of living in Congo is generally quite low, with basic necessities such as food and transportation being relatively inexpensive. However, the cost of living in the capital city of Kinshasa is significantly higher than in the rest of the country. Rent for a nice 1 bedroom apartment in Kinshasa can range from $500 to $1000 USD per month, while a nice 2 bedroom apartment can range from $800 to $1500 USD per month. Eating dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in Kinshasa can cost around $10 USD per person," commented one expat who moved to Congo.

What type of recreational facilities are in Congo?

When we asked people living in Congo about recreational activities, they mentioned:

"In Congo, residents enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, such as parks, beaches, and sports complexes. Parks provide a great place to relax and enjoy nature, while beaches offer a great place to swim and soak up the sun. Sports complexes provide a great place to play a variety of sports, such as soccer, basketball, and tennis. Additionally, there are many outdoor activities to enjoy, such as hiking, camping, and fishing. Congo also has a variety of cultural attractions, such as museums, galleries, and theaters," remarked one expat in Congo.

What is the weather like in Congo?

"The climate in Congo is generally tropical with high temperatures and high humidity. Rainfall is abundant throughout the year, with the heaviest rains occurring during the months of March to May and September to November. The dry season is from June to August. The climate is generally hot and humid in the lowlands, while the highlands are cooler and drier," said an expat in Congo.

Are there good restaurants in Congo?

"One of the most popular restaurants in Congo is La Paillote, located in Kinshasa. This restaurant serves traditional Congolese cuisine, such as grilled fish, plantains, and cassava. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Another popular restaurant is La Maison des Grillades, located in Brazzaville. This restaurant specializes in grilled meats, such as beef, chicken, and pork. The restaurant also serves a variety of side dishes, such as fries, salads, and rice. The atmosphere is lively and the staff is friendly and helpful. Finally, La Table de Maman is a popular restaurant located in Lubumbashi. This restaurant serves traditional Congolese dishes, such as grilled fish, plantains, and cassava. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly and attentive," remarked one expat in Congo.

Where will I buy groceries and do other shopping in Congo?

"People living in Congo typically buy groceries and do other shopping at local markets, roadside stalls, and small shops. Many people also purchase items from street vendors who sell a variety of goods. Additionally, larger cities may have supermarkets and department stores where people can buy a variety of items," remarked one expat living in Congo.

What are the visa & residency requirements in Congo?

"In order to visit Congo, travelers must obtain a visa prior to arrival. The process of applying for a visa involves submitting an application form, a valid passport, two passport-sized photographs, and a fee. Depending on the purpose of the visit, additional documents may be required.
