Is the cost of living in Gambia high?

We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in Gambia, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Gambia is generally considered to be quite low. Basic necessities such as food, transportation, and housing are relatively inexpensive compared to other countries. Prices for imported goods, however, can be higher than in other countries. The local currency, the Dalasi, is also relatively weak compared to other currencies, making it difficult to purchase items from abroad," remarked one expat who made the move to Gambia.

"The cost of living in Gambia is generally low, with basic necessities such as food and transportation being relatively inexpensive. However, the cost of living in the capital city of Banjul is higher than in other parts of the country. Rent for a nice 1 bedroom apartment in Banjul is around $400 USD per month, while a nice 2 bedroom apartment is around $600 USD per month. Eating dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in Gambia will cost around $10 USD per person," mentioned one expat inGambia.

"In Gambia, residents enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, such as beaches, parks, and sports facilities. The beaches are a popular destination for swimming, sunbathing, and other water activities. Parks provide a great place for picnics, outdoor games, and nature walks. What is the weather like in Gambia?

"The climate in Gambia is tropical with two distinct seasons. The dry season runs from November to May and is characterized by hot, dry winds from the Sahara Desert. The rainy season runs from June to October and is characterized by heavy rains and high humidity. Temperatures remain fairly consistent throughout the year, with average highs in the mid-80s and lows in the mid-70s," said one expat.

"People living in Gambia typically buy groceries and do other shopping at local markets, roadside stalls, and small shops. Many people also shop at larger supermarkets and department stores in the larger cities. Shopping centers and malls are also becoming increasingly popular in Gambia, offering a wide variety of goods and services," mentioned one expat inGambia.

"To enter Gambia, visitors must obtain a visa prior to arrival. The process of applying for a visa involves submitting an application form, a valid passport, two passport-sized photographs, and a fee. Depending on the purpose of the visit, additional documents may be required.
