How are healthcare services Delaware?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Delaware, they replied:

"Delaware offers a wide range of healthcare services to its residents. The state is home to a variety of hospitals and medical facilities, including Christiana Care Health System, Beebe Healthcare, and Bayhealth Medical Center. These hospitals provide a range of services, from primary care to specialized care, and offer access to the latest medical technology. Additionally, Delaware has a number of community health centers that provide primary care services to those who are uninsured or underinsured. These centers are located throughout the state and offer a variety of services, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and mental health services. Delaware also has a number of specialty care centers, such as cancer centers, women's health centers, and pediatric centers. These centers provide specialized care for specific conditions and diseases," wrote one expat.

What are medical services in Delaware like?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Delaware, they replied:

"Delaware offers a wide range of medical services to its residents. The state has a network of hospitals, clinics, and health centers that provide comprehensive care for a variety of medical needs. Delaware also has a number of specialty care centers that provide specialized care for specific conditions. Additionally, the state has a variety of mental health services, including counseling and therapy, as well as substance abuse treatment. Delaware also offers a variety of preventive care services, such as immunizations and screenings, to help keep residents healthy," said one expat living in Delaware.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in Delaware?

"Healthcare and health insurance in Delaware can be expensive, depending on the type of coverage and provider. Generally, health insurance premiums in Delaware are higher than the national average, and the cost of healthcare services can also be high. However, there are a variety of health insurance plans available in Delaware, and subsidies are available to help make coverage more affordable," wrote one expat.

What are emergency services like in Delaware?

When we asked about emergency services, members in Delaware wrote:

"In Delaware, emergency services are provided by the Delaware State Fire School and the Delaware Office of Emergency Medical Services. In the event of an emergency, you can call 911 to request an ambulance. The dispatcher will ask for your location and the nature of the emergency, and will then send an ambulance to the scene. Emergency medical personnel will assess the situation and provide the necessary medical care," mentioned one expat in Delaware.

Will I need to travel to see a specialist?

"Wilmington is widely considered to have the best selection of medical specialists in the state of Delaware. Other large cities, such as Dover and Newark, also offer a variety of specialists with comprehensive care. In addition, the Christiana Care and Bayhealth healthcare networks have multiple locations throughout the state, providing access to specialists from a variety of disciplines. Additionally, Delaware has several specialized healthcare centers, including Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, and Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute. These facilities offer specialized, comprehensive care for a wide range of medical issues," wrote an expat living in Delaware.

Are common prescription medications available in Delaware?

"Yes, common prescription medications are available in Delaware. Pharmacies in Delaware are able to fill prescriptions from any licensed prescriber in the United States. Patients can also purchase medications from online pharmacies that are licensed in Delaware. In addition, Delaware has a Prescription Assistance Program that helps eligible residents access medications at reduced or no cost," said one expat living in Delaware.

Do you have anything more to add about local medical facilities in Delaware?

"Delaware provides excellent medical care with a wide range of high-quality medical facilities. The state has numerous hospitals with advanced medical technology, as well as top-notch medical staff that includes doctors, nurses, and other medical providers. In addition, Delaware offers a wide range of medical services such as primary care, specialty care, mental health, and preventive care. Patients in Delaware can expect to receive a high level of medical attention, personalized treatment, and excellent customer service," wrote one expat.

As a foreigner living in Delaware, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

"Yes, as a foreigner living in Delaware, you will have access to public healthcare. Delaware's public healthcare system is administered by the Delaware Health and Social Services Department and provides a variety of services, including preventive care, primary care, mental health services, and long-term care. The system also provides access to specialists and hospitals, as well as prescription drug coverage. The system is designed to provide quality care to all Delaware residents, regardless of their income or immigration status," commented one expat living in Delaware.

What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?

"The pandemic has had a significant impact on the healthcare system in Delaware. Many healthcare providers have had to adjust their services to accommodate the influx of patients, while also ensuring the safety of their staff and patients. Telehealth services have become increasingly popular, allowing patients to access care from the comfort of their own homes. In addition, many healthcare providers have implemented additional safety protocols, such as temperature checks and mask requirements, to protect their staff and patients. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the healthcare system in Delaware has remained resilient and continues to provide quality care to its patients," wrote one expat.
