"North Dakota offers a wide range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialty care, mental health services, and preventive care. The state is home to several major hospitals and medical facilities, including Sanford Health in Fargo, Trinity Health in Minot, and CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. These hospitals provide comprehensive care, including emergency services, inpatient and outpatient care, and specialty services. Additionally, North Dakota has numerous rural health clinics and community health centers that provide primary care and preventive services to underserved populations," said an expat in North Dakota.

What are medical services in North Dakota like?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in North Dakota, they replied:

"North Dakota offers a wide range of medical services to its residents. The state has a network of hospitals, clinics, and health centers that provide quality care to patients. In addition, North Dakota has a variety of specialists, including primary care physicians, surgeons, and specialists in various fields such as cardiology, oncology, and neurology. The state also offers mental health services, including counseling and therapy, as well as substance abuse treatment. North Dakota also has a number of rural health centers that provide care to those living in rural areas," wrote one expat.

Are healthcare and health insurance expensive in North Dakota?

"Healthcare and health insurance in North Dakota can be expensive, depending on the type of coverage and provider. When we asked about emergency services, members in North Dakota wrote:

"In North Dakota, emergency services are provided by the North Dakota Department of Health and the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Emergency medical services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To call for an ambulance, dial 911. The dispatcher will ask for your location and the nature of the emergency. They will then send an ambulance to the scene," said one expat living in North Dakota.

Will I need to travel to see a specialist?

"The cities of Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Forks are known for having a wide variety of medical specialists. In addition, the Minot and Williston areas are also known for having a good selection of medical specialists. Other cities in North Dakota, such as Dickinson, Jamestown, and Devils Lake, also have a variety of medical specialists available," said one expat living in North Dakota.

Are common prescription medications available in North Dakota?

"Yes, common prescription medications are available in North Dakota. Pharmacies in the state are able to fill prescriptions for a variety of medications, including those for common conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. Telehealth services have become increasingly popular, allowing patients to access care from the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, many healthcare providers have implemented additional safety protocols, such as temperature checks and mask requirements, to protect their staff and patients. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the healthcare system in North Dakota has remained resilient and continues to provide quality care to its citizens," wrote one expat.
