When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Belarus, they replied:

"Healthcare services in Belarus are provided by both public and private institutions. The public healthcare system is funded by the government and is available to all citizens and foreign residents. The quality of public healthcare is generally good, with a wide range of services available, including primary care, specialist care, and hospital services. Expats in Belarus can access the public healthcare system, although they may need to pay for some services. Expats can also use private healthcare services, which are often more expensive but may offer a higher quality of care," mentioned one expat in Belarus.

What are emergency services like in Belarus?

"Emergency services in Belarus are provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In the event of an emergency, the public can call the emergency number 112 to request an ambulance. The ambulance service is free of charge and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The ambulance service is staffed by trained medical personnel and is equipped with the necessary medical equipment to provide emergency medical care," wrote an expat living in Belarus.

Will I need to travel to see a specialist?

"Minsk is the capital of Belarus and is home to some of the best medical specialists in the country. The city has a wide range of medical facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centers. Other cities in Belarus with a good selection of medical specialists include Brest, Grodno, and Gomel. Additionally, the towns of Vitebsk and Mogilev are known for their excellent medical services," commented one expat who moved to Belarus.

Are common prescription medications available in Belarus?

"Prescription medications are available in Belarus, and the country has a well-developed pharmaceutical industry. Most medications that are available in other countries are also available in Belarus, including both generic and brand-name drugs. Pharmacies in Belarus are required to carry a wide range of medications, and many of them offer online ordering and delivery services. In addition, the government provides subsidies for certain medications, making them more affordable for those who need them," said an expat in Belarus.

Do you have anything more to add about local medical facilities in Belarus?

What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?

We asked expats in Belarus if they have access to public healthcare in Belarus. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"The pandemic has had a significant impact on the healthcare system in Belarus. The government has implemented a number of measures to try to contain the spread of the virus, including restrictions on movement, the closure of schools and businesses, and the introduction of mandatory mask-wearing. Despite these measures, the healthcare system has been overwhelmed by the number of cases, leading to long waiting times for medical appointments and a shortage of medical supplies. In addition, the government has been accused of downplaying the severity of the pandemic, leading to a lack of public trust in the healthcare system," said one expat.

What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Belarus?

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Belarus about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said:

"It is important to research the healthcare system in Belarus before having a baby there. Make sure to find a reliable doctor or midwife who speaks your language and is familiar with the local healthcare system. Additionally, it is important to familiarize yourself with the local laws and regulations regarding childbirth and parenting. Make sure to have all the necessary documents and paperwork in order before the baby is born. Finally, it is important to build a support network of family and friends who can help you during the pregnancy and after the baby is born," said one expat in Belarus.

Are healthcare services good in Belarus?

We asked people if they have access to good medical care in Belarus. They wrote:

"Healthcare services in Belarus are generally of a high quality and are provided free of charge to all citizens. The country has a well-developed network of hospitals, clinics, and medical centers, which are equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed by highly qualified medical professionals. Belarus also has a number of specialized medical centers, such as the National Center for Cardiology and the National Center for Oncology, which provide specialized care for patients with specific medical conditions. In addition, Belarus has a number of private medical facilities, which offer a range of services at a fee," said one expat in Belarus.
