What are the pros and cons of living in Ivory Coast?
Expats, digital nomads and retirees living in Ivory Coast responded:
"Expats and digital nomads living in Ivory Coast appreciate the country's vibrant culture, friendly people, and beautiful landscapes. They also enjoy the low cost of living, which allows them to stretch their budget further. On the other hand, they may find the infrastructure and public services lacking, as well as the lack of reliable internet access. Additionally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who don't speak French," said one in Ivory Coast.

What do expats in Ivory Coast appreciate most about the local culture?
"most people turn out to be helpful, very friendly and very open with their opinions. it's a vivid and colourful culture. i like that there is city life (where you can almost live up to western standards) but also still very traditional ways of living in the villages. it`s interesting to get to know all the problems they have to develop and how much everything changed after the crisis," explained one expat living in Abidjan.
What do expats find most challenging?
"the slowliness and uneffectiveness. the fact that i never know if someone likes me because of my wallet or because of me as a person. the noise and that you can hardly walk on the streets without being bugged by someone," explained one expat.
"Expats in Ivory Coast often find the local culture to be quite different from their own, which can be challenging to adjust to. Language barriers can be a challenge, as French is the official language of Ivory Coast, and many locals may not be fluent in English. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to learn, as they may be quite different from what expats are used to. Finally, the climate in Ivory Coast can be difficult to adjust to, as it is hot and humid year-round," said one person in Ivory Coast.
"Again, seeing the filth in the streets, and the deteriorating infrastructure. So many wonderful buildings left unfinished or abandoned. I have come to appreciate this place in a very short time, and I find myself wanting very much for it to be reborn as the vibrant city it once was," remarked one expat in Abidjan.
