How do I meet people in Antigua & Barbuda?

When we asked people living in Antigua & Barbuda about club and activities where newcomers can meet others, they responded:

"Being friendly, first and foremost, interaction with the locals, being creative and resourceful. Getting out - whenever you're invited out, accept it. The beach is good, live music events, lots are free events. Come outside yourself, create programs for the youth, don't be afraid to ask for sponsorship," said one retiree in living in St Johns, Antigua & Barbuda.

"Expats in Antigua & Barbuda often join clubs and activities such as sailing, golf, tennis, and beach volleyball. Expats can also join local book clubs, art classes, and language classes. Additionally, expats can meet people by attending local events such as festivals, concerts, and farmers markets. Expats can also meet people by attending church services, joining a gym, or volunteering with a local charity," explained a retiree in Antigua & Barbuda.

What is life like in Antigua & Barbuda?

When we asked people living in Antigua & Barbuda what life is like and how people spend their time, they said:

"Everybody is trying to make a living. Grow food if you can, or at least know someone who does! Work is vitally important, even a day work is important, unlike America. A day work is also respected! You have to get with Cricket and u have to get with Futbol (soccer). If you don't get to know the people in your village, you are doing yourself a disservice," explained a retiree in St Johns.

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Antigua & Barbuda, they said:

Additionally, expats should research the availability of healthcare services and the quality of medical care. It is also important to be aware of the local laws and regulations, as well as the climate and weather patterns. Finally, expats should research the availability of activities and amenities that they may be interested in, such as cultural events, recreational activities, and shopping," said a retiree who moved to Antigua & Barbuda.

What type of recreational activities are there in Antigua & Barbuda?

"Residents of Antigua & Barbuda enjoy a variety of recreational activities, from swimming and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea to exploring the lush rainforests and hiking the trails of the island's many national parks. Other popular activities include sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and fishing. Golfers can enjoy a round of golf at one of the island's many championship courses. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, there are plenty of beaches to relax on and soak up the sun. Shopping and dining are also popular activities, with a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops to explore," explained one retiree living in Antigua & Barbuda.

"People living in Antigua & Barbuda typically buy groceries and do other shopping at local supermarkets, convenience stores, and markets. Additionally, many people shop at the larger department stores located in the capital city of St. John's. There are also a variety of specialty stores and boutiques located throughout the islands," remarked one retiree in Antigua & Barbuda.
