What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Kenya?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Kenya is the cost of living. Kenya is a developing country and the cost of basic necessities such as food, housing, and healthcare can be quite high. Additionally, the infrastructure in Kenya is not as developed as in other countries, making it difficult to access certain services and amenities. Furthermore, the political and social climate in Kenya can be unstable, making it difficult to feel secure in one's retirement. Finally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who do not speak Swahili or English," said a person in Kenya.

What are healthcare services like in Kenya?

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Kenya. They wrote:

"Kenya has a public healthcare system that provides basic medical services to its citizens. The public healthcare system is largely funded by the government and is supplemented by private healthcare providers. Healthcare services in Kenya are generally of a good quality, with a range of medical professionals available to provide care. However, access to healthcare is limited in rural areas, and the cost of private healthcare can be prohibitively expensive for many Kenyans. In addition, there is a shortage of medical supplies and equipment in some areas, which can lead to delays in treatment," commented one retiree living in Kenya.

How do I meet people in Kenya?

When we asked people living in Kenya about club and activities where newcomers can meet others, they responded:

"There are lots of social clubs. A good place to start is the notice board in many of the city's main malls," said one retiree in Nairobi.

"Expats in Kenya often join clubs and activities such as golf, tennis, sailing, and running. Expats can also join social clubs, such as the Nairobi Expat Club, which organizes events and activities for expats to meet and socialize. Additionally, expats can meet people by attending local events, such as art exhibitions, music festivals, and cultural celebrations. Expats can also meet people by attending church services, volunteering, or joining a language exchange program," commented one retiree living in Kenya.

"Harambee" is the name of a family or community party which will require a small donation but is well worth attending.
