Will I save money living in Switzerland?
"Living in Switzerland may save you money depending on your lifestyle and income. In general, Switzerland is known for having an expensive cost of living compared to other countries. The prices of food and healthcare are generally higher, while rental prices and transportation costs to travel within the country can be quite affordable. However, if you are an expatriate and earn a salary in Swiss francs, the exchange rate may make your income go further than it would in the US. Additionally, tax benefits may further reduce the amount of money you spend," said one expat in Switzerland.
What is the average cost of housing in Switzerland?
If you are thinking about moving to Switzerland, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:
"Property is expensive, whether you buy or rent. In the cities of Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern, prices can be astronomic," remarked one in Olten.
"About the same as in the San Francisco Bay Area. A nice small (100 sq. meters) ski chalet is about USD 450,000. I think that's because it is in a tourist area. I know that some places of comparable size are less expensive in Interlaken," explained one expat.
