Summary: The cost of living in Rwanda is generally considered to be quite affordable. A nice 1 bedroom apartment in Rwanda can cost anywhere from $400 to $800 per month, while a nice 2 bedroom apartment can cost from $600 to $1,200 per month. The cost of dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in Rwanda is usually around $10 to $15 per person.

Basic necessities such as food, transportation, and housing are relatively inexpensive compared to other countries in the region. Prices for consumer goods and services are also quite reasonable, making it a great place to live for those on a budget. Additionally, the cost of entertainment and leisure activities is quite low, making it a great place to enjoy a variety of activities without breaking the bank," explained one expat living in Rwanda.

Will I save money living in Rwanda?

"Living in Rwanda can be significantly cheaper than living in the United States. The cost of living in Rwanda is much lower than in the United States, with basic necessities such as food, transportation, and housing costing significantly less. Additionally, the cost of entertainment and leisure activities is also much lower in Rwanda than in the United States. As a result, living in Rwanda can be a great way to save money compared to living in the United States," remarked one expat in Rwanda.

What are typical rental prices for expats in Rwanda?

"The rental price for a nice 1 bedroom apartment in Rwanda can vary depending on the location and amenities, but generally ranges from around $400 to $800 per month. For a nice 2 bedroom apartment, the rental price can range from around $600 to $1,200 per month," mentioned one expat in Rwanda.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Rwanda what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in Rwanda typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, dishwasher, and air conditioning unit. Depending on the property, some may also include a water heater, water filter, and/or a generator," said an expat in Rwanda.
