Dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in Laos can cost anywhere from $5 to $15 per person.

Is the cost of living in Laos high?

We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in Laos, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Laos is generally quite low, with basic necessities such as food, transportation, and accommodation being relatively inexpensive. Eating out at restaurants is also quite affordable, with a meal for two people costing around $10 USD. Renting an apartment in the city center can range from $200 to $400 USD per month, while outside of the city center it can be as low as $100 USD per month. Utilities such as electricity and water are also quite affordable, with an average monthly bill of around $30 USD," remarked one in Laos.

We asked foreigners in Laos what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Laos, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, air conditioner, and water heater. Furniture may also be included in the rental, such as beds, tables, and chairs," said one expat.
