Summary: The cost of living in Russia is generally lower than in many other countries. A nice one bedroom apartment in Russia can cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500 per month, while a nice two bedroom apartment can cost from $800 to $2,500 per month. The cost of dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in Russia is usually around $15 to $25 per person.

Is the cost of living in Russia high?

"The cost of living in Russia varies depending on the region and city. Generally, the cost of living in Russia is lower than in many other European countries. Groceries, transportation, and utilities are generally quite affordable, while rent and other housing costs can be quite high in the larger cities. Eating out can also be expensive, but there are plenty of affordable options available," remarked one in Russia.

Will I save money living in Russia?

"Living in Russia can be significantly cheaper than living in the United States. The cost of living in Russia is generally lower than in the United States, with rent, groceries, and other everyday expenses costing much less. Additionally, the average salary in Russia is lower than in the United States, meaning that the same amount of money can go much further in Russia. As a result, living in Russia can be a great way to save money," said one expat in Russia.

What is the average cost of housing in Russia?

If you are thinking about moving to Russia, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"Higher, mainly because it is a furnished appartment. I pay $350 a month. I know of many people (for who their company is) paying $1200 or even $5000 a month," said one person in Moscow.

We asked foreigners in Russia what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Russia, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Other common appliances that may be included are a microwave, dishwasher, and television. Depending on the property, some landlords may also provide furniture and other amenities," said an expat in Russia.
