There are a variety of apartments and houses available for rent in other cities, such as Mary, Dashoguz, and Turkmenabat. Finally, you can also look for rental properties in rural areas of Turkmenistan. There are a variety of houses and apartments available for rent in rural areas, and they can be a great option for those looking for a more peaceful and secluded living experience," said one person in Turkmenistan.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Turkmenistan?
"In a low rise apartment building with the locals. It's typical for non-diplomatic expats. 90% are ugly, old and tackily decorated..the stairwells of buildings ..nightmare," said one person in Ashgabat.
"Expat homes and apartments in Turkmenistan tend to be modern and comfortable, with amenities such as air conditioning, internet access, and satellite television. Many expats choose to live in larger cities such as Ashgabat, where there is a greater selection of housing options. Expat apartments often come with a balcony or terrace, and some may even have a view of the city skyline. Furnishings are usually modern and comfortable, and many apartments come with a fully-equipped kitchen," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Turkmenistan.
What is the average cost of housing in Turkmenistan?
If you are thinking about moving to Turkmenistan, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:
"They are cheaper than where I am from, but for the quality you get here and what the allowances the companies give for housing based on it being Turkmenistan, the rent is expensive. One bedroom can be between US 300-700/month. US 300-450 priced apartments are very dodgy looking," said one expat who made the move to Ashgabat.
"The cost of housing in Turkmenistan varies depending on the location and type of housing. Generally, housing in the capital city of Ashgabat is more expensive than in other parts of the country. Prices for apartments and houses range from moderately priced to quite expensive," explained one foreigner living in Turkmenistan.
Should I buy or rent a home in Turkmenistan?

Additionally, renting can provide more flexibility, as it allows you to move more easily if your circumstances change. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Turkmenistan should be based on your individual needs and financial situation," explained one person living in Turkmenistan.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Turkmenistan?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Turkmenistan, they said...
"Foreigners are not allowed to own property in Turkmenistan. The country's laws do not permit foreign individuals or companies to purchase or own land or real estate. However, foreign companies may lease land or real estate for up to 50 years. Foreigners may also own movable property such as cars, furniture, and other items," explained one person living in Turkmenistan.
What appliances are typically included in a rental?
We asked foreigners in Turkmenistan what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:
"In Turkmenistan, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, dishwasher, and air conditioning unit. Depending on the property, additional amenities such as a television, internet access, and furniture may also be included," said one person in Turkmenistan.
