"One of the best ways to find a place to live in Zimbabwe is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Property24, Private Property, and Property.co.zw are great resources for finding rental properties in Zimbabwe. Additionally, you can also search for rental listings on classifieds websites such as Craigslist and Gumtree. Additionally, you can also contact local real estate agents who can help you find a suitable place to live. Finally, you can also ask around in your local community for recommendations on rental properties," said one expat in Zimbabwe.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Zimbabwe?

"Expat homes and apartments in Zimbabwe tend to be modern and comfortable, with amenities such as air conditioning, internet access, and satellite television. Many expats choose to live in gated communities, which offer additional security and access to amenities such as swimming pools and tennis courts. Expat homes and apartments in Zimbabwe are typically spacious and well-furnished, with plenty of room for entertaining guests," explained one person living in Zimbabwe.

What is the average cost of housing in Zimbabwe?

If you are thinking about moving to Zimbabwe, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The cost of housing in Zimbabwe varies greatly depending on the location and type of housing. Generally, housing in Zimbabwe is relatively affordable compared to other countries in the region. Prices for basic housing can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the size and amenities of the property," said one expat in Zimbabwe.

Should I buy or rent a home in Zimbabwe?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Zimbabwe, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Zimbabwe can be a great investment, as property prices are relatively low and the country is experiencing economic growth. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in Zimbabwe, as well as the availability of financing and the current political and economic climate. Renting a home in Zimbabwe can be a more affordable option, as it allows you to avoid the upfront costs associated with buying a home. Additionally, renting can provide more flexibility if you are unsure of how long you will be living in Zimbabwe. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Zimbabwe should be based on your individual needs and financial situation," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Zimbabwe.

What do I need to know when buying property in Zimbabwe?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Zimbabwe, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local market and understand the current economic and political situation in Zimbabwe before making any decisions about buying property. 2. It is also important to understand the legal framework for buying property in Zimbabwe, including the process for registering a property and the associated costs. 3. It is advisable to seek professional advice from a qualified lawyer or real estate agent to ensure that all legal requirements are met. 4. It is important to be aware of the potential risks associated with buying property in Zimbabwe, such as the risk of political instability and the potential for land disputes. 5. It is also important to be aware of the potential for corruption and fraud when buying property in Zimbabwe. 6. It is advisable to obtain a survey of the property before making any decisions about buying it. 7. It is important to be aware of the potential for inflation and currency devaluation when buying property in Zimbabwe. 8. It is also important to be aware of the potential for taxes and fees associated with buying property in Zimbabwe," wrote one expat who made the move to Zimbabwe.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Zimbabwe?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Zimbabwe, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Zimbabwe. However, they must obtain permission from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement in order to do so. Additionally, they must provide proof of their identity and residence status, as well as a valid passport. Furthermore, they must also provide proof of their financial ability to purchase the property," said one expat in Zimbabwe.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Zimbabwe what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in Zimbabwe typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, dishwasher, and air conditioning unit. Depending on the property, additional amenities such as a water heater, water purification system, and security system may also be included," said one in Zimbabwe.
