Some homes may also include features such as swimming pools, hot tubs, and fireplaces.

What do I need to know when buying property in New Jersey?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in New Jersey, they said:

"When buying property in New Jersey, it is important to research both the property and the surrounding area to ensure that it is suitable for your needs. It is also important to factor in any applicable taxes, in addition to any necessary home inspections and real estate fees. You should make sure that you understand the terms of any applicable warranties, and the timeline and costs associated with closing the sale. Additionally, be sure to familiarize yourself with any applicable state or local homeowner’s association (HOA) regulations. Finally, make sure to obtain title insurance to protect yourself against any issues with the previous owner’s title," remarked one foreigner who made the move to New Jersey.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in New Jersey?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in New Jersey, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in New Jersey. Non-U.S. citizens are able to purchase real estate in the state, just like any other U.S. citizen. However, they may need to obtain a valid visa in order to do so. Additionally, they may need to provide proof of funds and other documents to the local government in order to complete the purchase," remarked one foreigner who made the move to New Jersey.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in New Jersey what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in New Jersey usually include standard kitchen appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and microwave. Additionally, some rentals may also include a washing machine and clothes dryer. Heating and air conditioning systems are also typically included in a rental property in New Jersey," remarked one foreigner who made the move to New Jersey.

"Newcomers to New Jersey can search for homes online by using real estate websites such as Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com. They can also contact local real estate agents to help them find the perfect home. Additionally, newcomers can look for homes in newspapers and magazines, or attend open houses to get a better feel for the area," said one foreigner living in New Jersey.
