Depending on the area, some homes may also include features such as swimming pools, hot tubs, and outdoor fireplaces.

What do I need to know when buying property in New Mexico?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in New Mexico, they said:

"When buying property in New Mexico, it is important to understand the home buying process and familiarize yourself with the real estate laws of the state. It is also beneficial to research what type of area or neighborhood you would like to buy in and find out what is available in your price range. You should also contact a real estate attorney or look into the available home inspector services to make sure the property is in good condition. Additionally, make sure to investigate the school systems and local amenities to make sure the neighborhood is the right one for you. Lastly, you should shop around for a mortgage lender and make sure to get pre-approved for a loan to give you more bargaining power when making an offer on a property," said one in New Mexico.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in New Mexico?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in New Mexico, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in New Mexico. Non-U.S. citizens are able to purchase real estate in the state, just like any other U.S. citizen. However, they may need to obtain a valid visa in order to do so. Additionally, they may need to obtain a tax identification number from the Internal Revenue Service in order to purchase property," explained one expat in New Mexico.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in New Mexico what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In a rental property in New Mexico, tenants may find a refrigerator, stove, and washer/dryer. Additionally, there may be a dishwasher and air conditioning unit installed. Lighting fixtures, window coverings such as curtains, and ceiling fans are also common features of rental homes in New Mexico," said one person in New Mexico.

"Newcomers to New Mexico can search for homes by using online real estate websites, such as Zillow or Realtor.com, to browse listings in the area. They can also contact local real estate agents to help them find the perfect home. Additionally, newcomers can look for homes in newspapers and magazines, or attend open houses to get a better feel for the area," explained one person living in New Mexico.
