Additionally, you can also search for rental listings on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, you can also contact local real estate agents who can help you find a suitable place to live in Ghana. Lastly, you can also ask friends and family who live in Ghana for recommendations," explained one person living in Ghana.

Prices for rental properties range from low-cost, basic housing to more expensive, luxury apartments. The average cost of housing in Ghana is typically lower than in other countries in the region," said one person in Ghana.

Should I buy or rent a home in Ghana?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Ghana, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Ghana can be a great investment, as the country's real estate market is growing rapidly. However, it is important to consider the costs associated with buying a home, such as closing costs, taxes, and maintenance fees. Renting a home in Ghana can be a more affordable option, as it allows you to avoid the upfront costs associated with buying a home. Additionally, renting a home can provide more flexibility, as you can move to a different location more easily than if you own a home. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Ghana depends on your individual needs and financial situation," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Ghana.

What do I need to know when buying property in Ghana?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Ghana, they said:

"1. It is important to research the area you are interested in buying property in, to ensure it is safe and secure. 2. It is also important to ensure that the property is legally registered and that all necessary paperwork is in order. 3. It is advisable to seek legal advice from a qualified lawyer before signing any contracts or agreements. 4. It is important to be aware of the taxes and fees associated with buying property in Ghana, such as stamp duty and registration fees. 5. It is also important to be aware of the local customs and laws regarding property ownership in Ghana. 6. It is advisable to use a reputable real estate agent to help you find the right property and to ensure that all necessary paperwork is in order. 7. It is important to be aware of the current market conditions in Ghana, as this can affect the price of the property. 8. Finally, it is important to ensure that you have the necessary funds to purchase the property, as well as any additional costs associated with the purchase," said one person in Ghana.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Ghana?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Ghana, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Ghana. The Ghanaian government has put in place a number of regulations to ensure that foreign ownership of property is secure and transparent. Foreigners are allowed to purchase land and buildings in Ghana, but they must obtain permission from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources before doing so. Additionally, foreigners must register their property with the Lands Commission and pay the applicable taxes and fees. The Ghanaian government also requires that foreigners obtain a residence permit before they can purchase property in the country," wrote one expat who made the move to Ghana.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Ghana what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In Ghana, rental properties typically include a refrigerator, stove, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a microwave, air conditioner, and water heater. Depending on the property, some landlords may also provide additional appliances such as a dishwasher, clothes dryer, or water purifier," explained one person living in Ghana.
