"One of the best ways to find a place to live in Serbia is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Njuskalo, Stanovi, and Nekretnine are popular sites for finding rental properties in Serbia. Additionally, you can search for rental listings on social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram. You can also contact local real estate agents who can help you find a suitable place to live. Additionally, you can ask friends and family who live in Serbia for recommendations," explained one person living in Serbia.

What is the average cost of housing in Serbia?

If you are thinking about moving to Serbia, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The cost of housing in Serbia varies depending on the location and type of property. Generally, the cost of renting an apartment in Serbia is relatively affordable compared to other European countries, with prices ranging from around €200 to €500 per month. Buying a property in Serbia is also relatively inexpensive, with prices ranging from €1,000 to €2,000 per square meter," said one expat in Serbia.

Should I buy or rent a home in Serbia?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Serbia, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Buying a home in Serbia can be a great investment, as the country has a strong economy and real estate market. However, it is important to consider the costs associated with buying a home, such as closing costs, taxes, and other fees. Additionally, it is important to consider the length of time you plan to stay in Serbia, as buying a home may not be the best option if you plan to move in the near future. Renting a home in Serbia can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to buying a home, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term," said one expat in Serbia.

What do I need to know when buying property in Serbia?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Serbia, they said:

"1. It is important to research the local market and understand the legal requirements for purchasing property in Serbia. 2. It is advisable to seek legal advice from a qualified lawyer who is familiar with the Serbian property market. 3. It is important to ensure that the property is registered with the relevant authorities and that all necessary paperwork is in order. 4. It is important to be aware of any restrictions or taxes that may apply to the purchase of property in Serbia. 5. It is important to be aware of the local customs and regulations when purchasing property in Serbia. 6. It is important to be aware of any potential risks associated with purchasing property in Serbia. 7. It is important to ensure that the property is inspected by a qualified professional before purchase. 8. It is important to ensure that all necessary documents are in order before signing any contracts," explained one person living in Serbia.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Serbia?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Serbia, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Serbia. According to the Serbian Law on Foreigners, foreign citizens and legal entities are allowed to purchase real estate in Serbia, provided that they have a valid residence permit. Foreigners are also allowed to own land, provided that they have obtained a permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. Furthermore, foreign citizens and legal entities are allowed to lease real estate in Serbia, provided that they have a valid residence permit," said one person in Serbia.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Serbia what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in Serbia typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Other common appliances may include a dishwasher, microwave, and air conditioning unit. Depending on the property, some landlords may also provide additional amenities such as a television, internet access, and furniture," said one expat in Serbia.

We asked foreigners in Serbia what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included...

"Expats can search for homes in Serbia by looking online for real estate listings, contacting local real estate agents, and asking for recommendations from other expats who have already settled in Serbia. Additionally, expats can attend open houses and viewings to get a better sense of the local housing market," explained one expat in Serbia.
