Additionally, you can also search for local real estate agents who can help you find a place to live in Salalah. Additionally, you can also ask friends and family who live in the area for recommendations. Renting a home in Salalah can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to buying a home, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Salalah should be based on individual needs and preferences," remarked one expat who made the move to Salalah.
What should I pack when moving to Salalah?
We asked people living in Salalah to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:
"When moving to Salalah, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack light, breathable clothing that will keep you cool in the hot, humid climate. Bring a hat and sunglasses to protect you from the sun. Bring a few items of modest clothing to respect the local culture. Pack a few items of warm clothing for the cooler winter months. Bring any necessary medications and toiletries. Don't forget to bring your passport and other important documents," replied a member in Salalah.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Salalah?
We asked people in Salalah if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:
"I ate a banana in front of a very hungry Omani in the middle of Ramadan. I was shocked when I found out that I'd totally forgotten about Ramadan but the Omani was very nice about it," explained one expat living in Salalah, Oman.
"It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions when visiting Salalah. It is important to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. It is also important to avoid public displays of affection, as this is considered inappropriate in Omani culture. Additionally, it is important to be aware of local laws and regulations, and to avoid engaging in activities that are considered illegal in Oman. Finally, it is important to be respectful of local religious beliefs and to avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion," said one expat in Salalah.
