We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One way to find a place to live in Cali is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Airbnb, HomeAway, and Vrbo offer a variety of rental options in the area. Generally, the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is around $400 to $500 per month, while a three-bedroom apartment in the suburbs can cost around $600 to $800 per month. Prices for larger homes and luxury properties can be significantly higher," remarked one expat in Cali, Colombia.

Should I buy or rent a home in Cali?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Cali, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"We are currently renting, but when I get there permanently next year, we will be buying. We actually were able to sign up for a government plan through a local bank. We make monthly deposits & in a year, they'll offer us our mortgage," replied a member in Cali.

"Buying a home in Cali can be a great investment, as the city is known for its vibrant culture and beautiful scenery. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in the area, as well as the availability of housing. Renting a home in Cali can be a great option for those who are not ready to commit to a long-term purchase, as it allows for more flexibility and can be more cost-effective in the short-term. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Cali should be based on individual needs and preferences," commented one expat who made the move to Cali.

What should I pack when moving to Cali?

We asked people living in Cali to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Cali, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing that is appropriate for the warm, tropical climate. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and exploring the city. Make sure to bring any necessary medications and toiletries. Additionally, it is a good idea to bring a few items that will help you feel at home, such as photos, books, and other personal items. Finally, don't forget to bring a valid passport and any other important documents," explained one expat living in Cali, Colombia.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Cali?

We asked people in Cali if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"It is important to be aware of cultural norms when visiting Cali. It is considered impolite to be late for appointments or social engagements, so it is important to arrive on time. It is also important to dress modestly, as revealing clothing is considered inappropriate. Additionally, it is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions, and to avoid making negative comments about them. Finally, it is important to be aware of the local language and to avoid speaking English in public, as this can be seen as disrespectful," said one expat in Cali.

"If I did, I'm too dumb to notice. I'm always polite and gentlemanly and find that Colombian people like to practice their English on me," remarked one expat who made the move to Cali.

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Cali, they replied:

"Cali offers a wide range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialty care, and hospital services. Primary care services are provided by general practitioners, pediatricians, and family physicians, while specialty care services are provided by specialists in areas such as cardiology, neurology, and oncology. Hospital services include emergency care, inpatient care, and outpatient care. Additionally, Cali has a number of public and private health centers that provide preventive care, such as vaccinations and health screenings," said one expat.

What are medical services in Cali like?

When we asked expats and global nomads about the quality of medical care in Cali, they replied:

"Cali offers a wide range of medical services, including both public and private hospitals and clinics. The public hospitals are generally well-equipped and staffed with experienced medical professionals, while the private hospitals and clinics offer more specialized services and treatments. In addition, there are a number of pharmacies and medical supply stores throughout the city, providing access to a variety of medications and medical supplies. Overall, Cali provides a comprehensive range of medical services to meet the needs of its citizens," wrote one expat living in Cali.

"Many specialists are US trained, speak English and seem to be quite competent. As a former bio-med technician familiar with lots of medical equipment I find many state of the art medical devices are used here," commented one expat living in Cali.
