When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Cabo San Lucas, they said:

"It is important to consider your method of travel before relocating to Cabo San Lucas as there are limited flights to and from the city. The area is also vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms, so researching seasonal weather patterns is recommended. The tap water is not considered safe to drink in Cabo San Lucas, so expats should be sure to purchase bottled water or invest in a water purification system for drinking and cooking. Additionally, the area is far from major cities, so it is important to research the availability of essential items like household goods, food and healthcare. It is also important to note that taxi and Uber services are limited in Cabo San Lucas, so good conversational Spanish is recommended for navigating the city. Lastly, it is essential to have proof of residency and obtain the necessary visa paperwork before relocating to Mexico," remarked one expat who made the move to Cabo San Lucas.

Additionally, you can use local property search websites like CaboTropic and CaboList, which specialize in listings from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Many local real estate agents in Cabo San Lucas provide extensive listings as well, including long-term rental properties. If you are looking for a more personal renting experience, you can also contact local landlords directly or visit leasing offices in the area," explained one expat living in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Most residences feature air-conditioning, fully-equipped kitchens, in-unit washers and dryers, and private balconies or terraces. The properties are ideally located close to beaches, resorts, shopping centers, and other attractions like the famous El Arco de Cabo San Lucas rock formation. Expats often enjoy such features as swimming pools, hot tubs, 24-hour security, assigned parking, and lush landscaping. The interior of the residence typically has contemporary styling with upscale decor and furnishings," replied a member in Cabo San Lucas.

What is the average cost of housing in Cabo San Lucas?

If you are thinking about moving to Cabo San Lucas, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"The average cost of housing in Cabo San Lucas is typically higher than other areas in Mexico, with prices ranging from moderately expensive to very expensive depending on the size and location of the property. Vacation rentals tend to be more expensive than long-term rentals, while single-family homes in gated communities tend to be the most expensive housing option," replied a member in Cabo San Lucas.

Should I buy or rent a home in Cabo San Lucas?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Cabo San Lucas, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"Cabo San Lucas is an attractive destination for both buying and renting a home. Its year round sunshine and access to miles of beaches make it a desirable place for living. If you plan to live in Cabo for an extended period of time, then buying a home may be the best option for you. In addition, it provides personal opportunity to customize the property to your specifications, as well as the potential for owning a valuable real estate asset that can appreciate as the years go by. On the other hand, if you do not intend to stay in Cabo long-term, or if you are unsure of your finances, then renting may be the more attractive option. With renting, you will have the flexibility to move out at any time, as well as the potential to benefit from the amenities associated with home rentals, such as maid services and other amenities. Whatever you decide, Cabo San Lucas is sure to be an enjoyable place to live," replied a member in Cabo San Lucas.

What should I pack when moving to Cabo San Lucas?

We asked people living in Cabo San Lucas to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded:

"When moving to Cabo San Lucas, it is important to pack clothing and shoes that are suitable for the warm climate, including light pants, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, and sandals. Consider bringing items that can be layered and that offer protection from both sunshine and wind. Bring any medications that you need, as well as books, magazines, and games to help keep you entertained and relaxed. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also essential, as well as a phone that works internationally and a translator if you need one. Don't forget to bring a few favorite items from home, items that evoke a feeling of comfort and familiarity," said one expat in Cabo San Lucas.

What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Cabo San Lucas?

We asked people in Cabo San Lucas if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!:

"In Cabo San Lucas, it is important to dress modestly, particularly when visiting churches or other religious sites. Visitors should also be aware of and cautious with public displays of affection, such as kissing and holding hands, which may not be as accepted or tolerated as in other parts of the world. When dining out, it is considered bad form to ask for items not listed on the menu, as well as to leave a very small tip, or not tip at all. Furthermore, it is important to show respect to Mexican customs and reverence to the local people. Finally, some public places may be smoke-free zones, so visitors should double check before lighting a cigarette," said one expat in Cabo San Lucas.

Additionally, the city is easily accessible via air, with direct flights to Los Cabos International Airport. With its shallow waters, abundance of activities, and low cost of living, it’s no wonder Cabo San Lucas is an attractive destination for expats," replied one expat when asked about moving to Cabo San Lucas.

Many of the hospitals and clinics are equipped with modern medical technology and staffed by experienced medical professionals. Additionally, there are a number of pharmacies in the city that provide prescription medications and over-the-counter remedies. For those seeking alternative treatments, there are also a number of holistic health centers that offer acupuncture, massage, and other natural therapies," remarked one expat in Cabo San Lucas.

Many of the hospitals and clinics are staffed by experienced and qualified medical professionals, and they offer a variety of treatments and services, including preventive care, diagnostics, and treatments for a variety of medical conditions. Additionally, many of the hospitals and clinics in Cabo San Lucas offer specialized services such as cosmetic surgery, fertility treatments, and dental care," commented one expat who moved to Cabo San Lucas.
