What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

"Research is essential when planning to retire overseas. Going through expat forums, websites, or blogs to gain insight into the local culture and language can be valuable. Talk to friends and family that have already retired abroad and create a network of support with fellow expats. Make sure to budget for the cost of living in the new country and to have enough funds for health care. Consider what type of visa is necessary for retirement for the country and ensure to have all paperwork in order before relocation. Finally, it is advisable to visit the country to make sure it is the right fit before making the decision to retire abroad," explained a retiree in Jakarta.

What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Jakarta?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Jakarta is the cost of living. Jakarta is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and the cost of housing, food, and other necessities can be quite high. Additionally, the city is prone to traffic congestion, making it difficult to get around. The air quality in Jakarta is also poor, which can be a health concern for retirees. Finally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who do not speak Indonesian," explained one retiree living in Jakarta.

Good staff are very important and should be rewarded with your trust and better than average pay if you find good ones. We love ours. Finally, as usual, a little bit of the local language goes a long long ways. Vocabulary is the key here b/c the rest of the language is easy," said one retiree in living in Jakarta, Indonesia.
