"The cost of living in Bocas del Toro is relatively low compared to other parts of the country. Basic necessities such as food, transportation, and utilities are generally inexpensive. Rent prices vary depending on the area, but are generally affordable. Eating out is also relatively inexpensive, with many restaurants offering meals for a few dollars. Overall, Bocas del Toro is a great place to live for those looking for a low cost of living," explained one expat.

"Our situation on isla Solarte in Bocas is such that we can live comfortable spending $1500 a month. Renting an apartment in town and riding a bicycle can produce a similar situation. I have older, single friends who live in town who spend much less than we do," said one person in Bocas del Toro.

Will I save money living in Bocas del Toro?

"Cost of living is much less than the US. Our particular situation is no property tax, utilities are my own (off grid), Internet, fuel and food are our only real costs besides entertainment. Internet is reliable and cheaper monthly in Bocas town then in the outer islands. The cost of food at the grocery store isn't "cheap" but surprisingly the restaurants are less. Getting bulk goods from Costco in David every couple months can save about 40% of your monthly food and disposable goods. Health insurance on a 70% /30% payment basis is only $148 monthly for the 2 of us (we are healthy). We spend less than $1500 a month when we are not traveling or being excessively social," remarked one in Bocas del Toro.

"Living in Bocas del Toro can be significantly cheaper than living in the United States. The cost of living in Panama is generally lower than in the United States, with rent, groceries, and other necessities costing much less. Additionally, Panama has no income tax, so you can keep more of your money. Furthermore, Panama has a strong US dollar, so you can get more for your money. All of these factors make Bocas del Toro an attractive option for those looking to save money," explained one expat.

What is the average cost of housing in Bocas del Toro?

If you are thinking about moving to Bocas del Toro, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

"Our housing costs are about a third of what we spend in the US. You can get a nice simple apartment for 300 and up or a home for 500 and up. We live on an island so you are never far from the ocean,," said one person in Bocas del Toro.

"The cost of housing in Bocas del Toro varies depending on the type of accommodation and location. Generally, the cost of renting an apartment or house in Bocas del Toro is relatively affordable compared to other cities in Panama. Prices range from around $200 to $1,000 per month, depending on the size and amenities of the property," remarked one expat in Bocas del Toro.

"The rental price for a nice 1 bedroom apartment in Bocas del Toro is typically around $500 to $700 per month. A nice 2 bedroom apartment in the same area can cost around $700 to $900 per month," commented one expat who moved to Bocas del Toro.

"Rental properties in Bocas del Toro typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Depending on the property, some may also include a dishwasher, microwave, and air conditioning," said one expat.
