"The cost of housing in Antalya can vary depending on the location and type of property. Generally, the average cost of housing in Antalya is relatively affordable compared to other cities in Turkey. Prices for apartments and villas range from moderate to high, depending on the size and amenities," explained one expat living in Antalya, Turkey.

Should I buy or rent a home in Antalya?

If you have not spent a lot of time in Antalya, you should rent before even thinking about buying. We asked expats there about the buy vs. rent decision:

"I had a house built after buying a plot of land with a Turkish friend. It is not difficult to buy property here, but despite what UK and Turkish real estate agencies that you do not need to use a Avukat (lawyer) i recommend you use one. It is best to ask other expats which lawyer they used, as like anywhere, some are better than others. Renting is quite straightforward, although in some cases you are required to pay upfront a payment for anything from one month to one year in advance," explained one person living in Antalya, Turkey.

"When deciding whether to buy or rent a home in Antalya, it is important to consider your budget, lifestyle, and long-term plans. Buying a home in Antalya can be a great investment, as the city is a popular tourist destination and real estate prices are expected to rise in the future. However, it is important to consider the costs associated with buying a home, such as closing costs, taxes, and maintenance. Renting a home in Antalya can be a more affordable option, and it can provide more flexibility if you are not sure how long you will be living in the city. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Antalya should be based on your individual needs and preferences," said one expat in Antalya.

What do I need to know when buying property in Antalya?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Antalya, they said:

"1. It is important to research the area you are interested in buying property in, to ensure it is suitable for your needs. 2. Make sure you understand the legal process of buying property in Turkey, including the necessary paperwork and fees. 3. Consider the cost of living in the area, including taxes, utilities, and other expenses. 4. Be aware of the local laws and regulations regarding property ownership and rental. 5. Hire a reputable lawyer to help you with the legal aspects of the purchase. 6. Make sure you understand the terms of any mortgage or loan you may take out to finance the purchase. 7. Consider the potential for rental income if you are buying a property to rent out. 8. Be aware of the potential risks associated with buying property in Turkey, such as political instability and natural disasters," said one in Antalya.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Antalya?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Antalya, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Antalya. The Turkish government has made it relatively easy for foreign nationals to purchase real estate in the country. However, there are certain restrictions and regulations that must be followed. Foreigners can buy residential properties, commercial properties, and land, but they cannot purchase property within military zones or in areas designated as strategically important. Additionally, the total amount of land owned by a foreigner cannot exceed 30 hectares. It is essential for foreign buyers to work with a reputable real estate agent and a lawyer to ensure that all legal requirements are met during the property purchase process," explained one person living in Antalya, Turkey.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Antalya what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"In a rental property in Antalya, tenants can typically expect to find a refrigerator, stove, oven, washing machine, and air conditioning unit. Additionally, some properties may also include a dishwasher, microwave, and other small appliances," said one expat in Antalya.
